Have you managed servers previously? Yes
Which servers have you previously managed?
I used to be staff (helper -> moderator -> admin) for a Trouble in Terrorist Town server called IceMod for a number of years. There, like SZF, I had to moderate a subjective-teambased-pvp gamemode where people make snap decisions and tensions can run high. I stepped away from the server my senior year to prepare for college. Unfortunately IceMod closed it's doors in 2018.
On what servers do you usually play on, and which servers would you like to moderate?
US Super Zombie Fortress (as well as the extended ZF family tree) with an absolutely ungodly number of hours. In that time I've learn the gamemode, the gameplay, and the community like the back of my hand.
Why would you like to become a moderator?
After talking with Ash, I would like to assist in the development of SZF with my knowledge of the plugin and sourcemod experience.
Do you know or have spoken to any of the current staff members? Yes
Please let us know the names of staff members you know or have spoken to
Ash Shaw (he's given me forced Explode rtd for being a spy on biotics and I need to tell you he- *explodes*)
How often do you play TF2?
2-4 hours a week (if not more). I mostly play during EST/UTC-5 afternoons and weekends.
Please give us your ideal way of punishing players, specific to the servers you want to moderate
My policy is common sense. Having a sensible yet firm hand. I follow a three strike policy, if you won't learn a lesson or cool it off after being warned or sitting out a map, you can come back tomorrow. Absolutely horrible behavior is a fast track up the ladder. The steepness of punishment steps is since it's mostly for repeat offenders who don't learn a lesson in a short time-frame (say scream slurs repeatedly to the detriment of other players). Those who are remorseful and change their behavior but maybe slip up in the future will not be punished as severely.
Toxicity, Discrimination, Spamming, and Other Nasty Behavior
Toxicity flows through the veins of some SZF players, and while healthy competition and trash-talking is fun in this PVP gamemode, being excessively belligerent, toxic, or discriminatory towards fellow soon-to-be-zombies is not.
Verbal warning -> sm warning -> Gag or mute for 25 minutes -> 1 day ban -> 1 week ban -> 1 month ban -> permanent ban
Literal slurs are an express ticket to getting gagged.
NSFW Sprays
Players most certainly have other channels to post and view such content. SZF isn't one of them.
Verbal warning -> sprayban
Truly horrific or NSFL sprays are an immediately warn and sprayban.
Delaying
I define delaying as intentionally prolonging the round, without recourse for zombies or without intention of playing as intended. If a zombie can reach you and try to kill you, and you are working towards the map objective (even if that objective is just staying alive), I think that's fine.
Verbal warning -> explode -> sm warning and explode -> kick -> 25 minute ban -> 24 hour ban -> 1 week ban -> 1 month -> permanent ban
Toxic Play
I define toxic play as actively and intentionally hurting your teammates for some personal benefit or enjoyment. If it's consistent and clearly disregarding of the survivor-team-social-contract it will be dealt with the same as if they were delaying.
Donator Abuse
Donator abuse on SZF comes in the form of voteslaying players for being annoying. Most just want to not be annoyed. Explaining situations where rules are not being broken and handling punishments for the situations where they are resolve such situations. If done recklessly and repeatedly (I'll never forget what they did to Dan) though then it will be considered donator abuse.
Strip donator > ban
Calladmin and Other Command Abuse
SZF hasn't had a moderator since Heatmaker retired (time flies it's already been 2 years since we talked about him applying for mod) so I don't have statistics of calladmin abuse, but it would fall under command abuse from the previously edited ladder.
Verbal warning -> sm warning -> kick -> 25 minute ban -> 24 hour ban -> 1 week ban -> 1 month -> permanent ban
Map Exploits
There are a number of map oversights and exploits that exist all over the maps and while players can stumble across them, most of them are passed down from player to player and as such are done consciously.
Verbal warnings -> explode -> sm warning and explode -> kick -> 25 minute ban -> 24 hour ban -> 1 week ban -> 1 month ban -> permanent ban
However, part of the SZF's charm comes from her jank and I'm not a hardass; If a player performs something, has their moment of "how did they even do that???" and killbinds when asked, I wouldn't punish them...so long as it doesn't fall under delaying, toxic play, or is done consistently.
Plugin Exploits
There are several exploits players can do to effectively break the plugin or get an unfair advantage. Most of these are bugs that players cannot do regularly or intentionally, but some can be and fall under the map exploitation punishment ladder.
Cheating and Hacking
Actual cheating and hacking has no place on the server, players caught cheating are recorded and then permanently banned. Luckily SZF is mostly free from them (except for aimbotting brass beast heavies of all things...)
Is there any other information you would like us to know about?
I can write Sourcemod code, and have a near encyclopedic knowledge of the inner-workings of SZF and how the god-forsaken attribute system works.
Are you proficient in languages other than English? No
