You can report users without an account, I would hope that this feature atleast remains.
Yup, that is still something we'll have to discuss. I assure you it's on my list of things to resolve before the move.
Well with this forum users only have access to BLW topics. theres no way using blackwonder.com would i be able to access s forum for smoking meth or something. With a discord i could get invited to anyserver that someone wants me to join
Honestly, this is a bit of a stretch. Many already have a discord account, and even if they made one just to join BLW, yeah they can be invited to join other servers, but that's their prerogative. We're not supposed to babysit people and which places they join.
Why not keep the user forums open for Reports, Appeals, Mod Apps, Problems, and Off-Topic. If its not a money thing, why close off options for people? Would it not be possible to simply have a discord bot post when theres a post made on the forums.
Regarding the discord bot - we already have that in the discord server.
This point, I can see your reasoning, and am definitely willing to consider it. Reports and appeals could remain in some form on our website, having those in two places shouldn't really be that big an issue. Mod apps are definitely not fit to be in two places at once imo, especially since the majority of staff actions are handled via discord anyways. Problems and off-topic - these ones I'm honestly not too sure. Off-topic is dead anyways, and problems is more a tracker for issues we have yet to fix, which means keeping them in two places at once is just more workload on the development staff.
I'll add this to the list of stuff to discuss.
Both mediums are good. Getting rid of bloat is welcome, but shutting down the whole forums is riddiculous.
I still believe there is no real need for a forums, but having an alternative way to file appeals and reports is something we'd have to discuss. As mentioned before, I've got those added as talking points for future discussions.
I agree with Kimmel. It isn’t fair on us to force people to make a discord account just to report someone ingame or to report a problem with our servers. It will just be easier to not play blackwonder again. The “splitting the community” argument never made sense to me, as there is no “community” aspect to reports, appeals, etc. We don’t gather around as a community all come and discuss together what we should do with some freekiller on jailbreak, or some random person who sprayed a naughty spray on class wars. Sure, implementing more functionality into our discord is all well and good, but we should not shut down the forums and leave the people who either don’t have a discord account, or don’t wish to make one in the dark. Taking away this functionality will be a detriment to the community as a whole.
The main use of the forums was for reports, appeals and applications. The latter will definitely be moved off in one way or another, as discord is as good as required for staff anyways. The first two options - yeah, it'd make sense to keep them in some way, We'll have to do a bit of discussion. If you don't agree with the "split community" point, then sure, but what about the staff team that has to split their attention, as well as how it looks on the community as a whole, when a new player comes to blw.tf and sees a dead forums with not much activity?
At the bare minimum, the forums would be pushed back, and the
Are the staff ignoring the bot?
Likely most staff have notifications turned off for the forums and/or the channel with the forum notifications. Personally I had the latter disabled up until last week, and forum notifications tend to come in with a slight delay for me. Idk, I use discord more than the forums, and for me personally, I got the feeling that many staff members do too, which results in faster report clearing.
its literally the same thing but with more functionality.
I'd disagree with this point. The reason why we're having this discussion is because the discord is NOT the same as the forums. Each platform has its downsides, which is why I'm engaging here, to see if we got points we missed and can see if we can iron them out.
Things seem to be getting off-track here. If kimmel doesn't want the forums to shut down, I'm willing to hear him out, all his arguments, and maybe see if we can change our plans. Nothing is set in stone as of yet, and the move is happening slowly so we can hear everyone out. No matter how "manchild-y" the arguments might sound to you, I'll take everything said here (except dan, you don't matter) seriously and consider what was said.
I'd appreciate it if we can keep this thead on-topic, about complaints about the move.
