i've heard many people trying to explain how this minigame works, but each has a different answer, so i would like to know for certain what it is

A game when a blue is sent to the location of the reds and must fight the non-rebelling reds.

It's banned on here for a good reason...

Essentially, It gives people who want some kills a justification to kill non-rebelling reds on the servers that do allow it.

if the reds are sent to a place like a maze, and then the blu is sent after some time to kill them, is this shark?

Shark is a catch-all for minigames like Sharks and minnows, which is when reds are placed in pool and have to fend off one or multiple attacking blues that are restricted to melee, which is either done by surviving or accomplishing an objective, like getting to the other side of the pool. The other posts here are describing Gladiator.
