Hey all, I figured with our trade servers becoming increasingly populated and hot spots for new/experienced/expert traders, I figured a How to on reporting scammers would be useful if you ever are to run into one.

First and foremost, EVIDENCE IS ALWAYS REQUIRED. Silly as this may be, there are instances where traders are marked with negative rep on backpack.tf and no evidence is provided. Following the same guidelines as any other report for rulebreakers on Blackwonder.tf servers, substantial evidence is required to successfully report a scammer.

IN REGARDS TO WHAT IS ALLOWED TO BE TRADED ON OUR SERVERS, only in game items ranging from tf2, CS:GO, Dota 2, trading cards and Rust are allowed to be sold. Under no circumstances are you allowed to advertise the sales of third party accounts, such as Netflix, VPNs or Hulu accounts, as this is against community rules and can lead to possible criminal prosecution.

Here is an example of a possible scam attempt:

Here we have a classic example of someone using a similar item that is significantly lower in value and trying to pass it off as an item of higher value. Whenever this scam is attempted they will usually provide a link to the Strange festive scattergun, when their item is a FESTIVIZED scattergun. Other examples of this scam attempt can be used for other items that are similar to their festive qualities when they have a festivized attached to them.

EDIT:
There are other items that are used in false identity scams. Along with festives items there is one increasingly popular one using the Lucky No. 42. If offered this item on an unusual or anything of high value, CHECK TO MAKE SURE IT IS THE CRAFTABLE ONE!!!!! Non-craftable ones are around 3 keys or so, while the craftable goes for 30+ keys on backpack.tf. Provided below is a link to said item.

FOR ANYTHING INVOLVING SCAM ATTEMPTS IN TRADES, THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE IS ACCEPTABLE!
Screenshots of the trade chat, showing the accused's attempt at passing the item off as something it is not.
Description of the said item, in this case showing that the "festive" strange scattergun is really a FESTIVIZED scattergun.
OR

A screenshot of the item in the accused's backpack.tf inventory or steam inventory, showing the full description of said item.

ANY EVIDENCE PROVIDED IN THE FOLLOWING FORMAT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AS PROPER EVIDENCE IN A TRADE REPORT!

Scenario 2;

Spycrabbing and heavyboxing are the two most common forms of betting in game on Team Fortress 2. In some cases people "run" from bets, which means they usually lose and disconnect from the server and block you, and not paying their end of the bargain. IN THIS SITUATION, ONE MUST OBTAIN A TRUSTED MIDDLEMAN BETWEEN BOTH PARTIES IF THE BET IS ABOVE 1 KEY! Anything below 1 key does not require the use of a middleman.
It is also useful to gather evidence of a "verbal" confirmation from the other party, this can be done either through text chat, Steam DMs and/or a recording(preferably a demo) of the other party saying they agree to the bet. Below is an example of proper confirmation for a bet between two parties.

IN THE EVENT THAT SOMEONE IS TO RUN FROM A SPYCRAB/HEAVYBOX BET, THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE IS ACCEPTABLE!
Screenshots of confirmation between you and the accused runner.
Video evidence of the bet taking place(highly recommended).
FOR ANYTHING ABOVE 1 KEY, AND WITH MIDDLEMAN PRESENT!
Screenshots of confirmation between both parties.
Video evidence of bet taking place.
Must provide Steam username/ID of middleman as a reference on report.

DISCLAIMER!!! STAFF CANNOT BE USED AS A MIDDLEMAN FOR ANY FORM OF GAMBLING!

Scenario 3;
IF SOMEONE CONTACTS YOU AND SENDS YOU A SUSPICIOUS LINK, OR SAYS THAT THEY'VE ACCIDENTALLY REPORTED YOU FOR DUPLICATING ITEMS OR ANYTHING, THIS IS MORE THAN A SCAM ATTEMPT!

Other forms of this scenario can be someone asking for you to add your items to bitskins to "verify" your item.

Unfortunately, these attempts usually happen away from Blackwonder servers, and therefore, staff cannot take actions against these types of scammers. In these situations, this is more than just a scam. Once you have clicked on the "address" to a website they provide that is suspicious, they can grab your IP and log into your steam account, hijacking it and locking you out, and proceed to trade your items to a main account and wipe your entire inventory clean. For these instances, you must report them with the correct evidence required to steamrep. If this action is required and you wish to rid the community of scum like this, I've provided a link you can click on that will take you directly to the report thread of steamrep's reports.

-must sign in through steam in order to report-
Here you can report the accused. Please follow their guidelines and refer to other reports as examples of how to properly format your report there.

When trading, these are safe and trusted websites that are widely used by TF2 traders, and myself have used.
Backpack.tf
Marketplace.tf (if you wish to use real life money to purchase items)
Scrap.tf
stntrading.eu

Other than that, have a day!
