I see no reason to have a friendly fire between blues. It only leads to accidental team kills and abuse. I feel that the ability to teamkill a mass freekiller is severely outweighed by the downsides of having this mechanic in. Seeing that stock melees(other than scout and spy) can one shot 7 of the 9 classes and that people haphazardly swing their melees too and fro, I think this mechanic should be removed.

Has very few but still present downsides like teamkilling a mass freekiller which is an absolute last resort but still allowed option under the special circumstance of no admins or donors. I’m not sure if it’s possible to basically code team restricted FF.

@Benedevil is this possible coding wise?

I gotta agree with this. The negatives severely outweigh the positives. Not just for randomly swinging weapons but also the fact that Wardens with bad attitudes could, in essence, freekill a guard they have beef with as a targeted attack. I've seen it happen before (not on BW thankfully) and it really ruins the experience for a lot of people, not just the guard.

If it is possible to separate the Red and Blu FF, then perhaps an option for Blu-only FF could be installed, as there are times where a mass freekiller needs to be punished, but 9 times out of 10, as soon as FF is turned on, all the Reds turn on each other as well. This could be a way to enforce rules without allowing Reds to damage each other while action is being taken.

Although this seems like a change that would overall benefit the server as you no longer need to worry about a fellow BLU automatically killing you by mistake this would negatively affect LRs such as hhh day and tiny day so I am on the fence with this suggestion.

I think these automatically apply FF but I may be wrong about that. The command (in wmenu and !wff) could be separated into team FFs without affecting auto-FF days.

Any current opinions?
I would say leave FF as is, since as other comments have mentioned the ability to kill a freekiller is useful and FF shouldn’t be randomly turned on anyway. Blues should just be careful around each other and probably shouldn’t be firing crockets left and right in the first place.

Most times I've seen ff turned on to kill the mfker, the mfker wins
I see no real advantage to keeping it this way

I feel like the staff and donor presence on the servers means there are much more effective ways to deal with mfks than ff. Blues team killing happens almost every map and it doesn't need to exist.

Sounds like a good idea, I'm just not sure if it's actually possible for Benedevil to program it. No offense to him, I think that just might be a limitation in sourcepawn. I'm happy to be proven wrong though :)

Except FFA lrs, there's 0 reasons I can think of for it to be a possibility
