Have you managed servers previously? Yes
Which servers have you previously managed?
Over a decade ago I did some admin work for the GMod servers that GFLClan (rip) had. Managed many more game modes in GMod a while after that in a place called Mega Strike Network as a main owner; managing TTT, Murder, F2S: Stronghold, Jailbreak, the staff for them, and their features (I was not a developer for them though). Both were for more or less a year if memory serves.
On what servers do you usually play on, and which servers would you like to moderate?
I am mostly on TF2Ware, x1000, and Class Wars. Occasionally I'll head into dodgeball if it has population as it is my favourite TF2 mode of all time. My main focus for moderating would be on TF2Ware (85.117.240.123:27060), maybe Class Wars as well (85.117.240.14:27020)
I can also say I have some dormant and ancient Jailbreak familiarity. It comes from Garry's Mod though which is very different from TF2s jailbreak it seems.
Why would you like to become a moderator?
Honestly, it's mostly because I feel a lack of front-line moderation on class wars and especially TF2Ware, which is my main focus of this application.
I have experienced so many people show up there (and class wars), do something awful, then just smugly brush it aside just to do it again a short bit later. Things like throwing slurs out all willy nilly and also throwing out general hate speech against groups of all sorts. I understand that in modern TF2 a lot of this stuff is meant as "jokes" but if that "joke" is your entire personality for the time you are connected to the server, then that makes the server look REALLY bad and unwelcoming, and I'm sick of seeing it happen.
Another thing is that TF2Ware tends to get plagued by NSFW sprays and there's just some part of me that wants to be there to defend it against the sprays in real time.
The part in the application guide that says "why would you be suited to moderate the servers" I'm going to tackle it head on, at the risk of sounding pretentious and stupid, by saying that I've definitely got a good vibe or charm or charisma or something that just kinda does some social magic?? I don't know what it is, especially since I've also seen myself as an introverted dorkus borkus. My partners said I'm just really likable so yeah, it's definitely a quality that will help here. People who are being bad will just become good because they're enjoying my presence, I don't know. It's already happening and I'm not even a mod.. I've just proof read the last paragraph and it's so damn cringe but it's also just real.
Now here comes something from wayyyy out of left field.. I believe BLW was my primary go to dodgeball server many MANY years ago, and I definitely wanted to help moderate it at the time, but I was busy with Mega Strike Network.. I also realized y'all we're (and still are) my #1 go to TF2Ware server over however many years the mode has existed, so thank you for that! I try to encourage funny fun good times in TF2Ware still anytime I am there and it's kinda nice to know I've been doing it in BLW for all that time
With that in mind, I would love to be able to help the community continue to hold strong and keep going for years to come! Bringing good vibes and representing Blackwonder with as much positivity and fun as possible!

How often do you play TF2?
VERY often.
Please give us your ideal way of punishing players, specific to the servers you want to moderate
In a mode like TF2Ware, most cases will likely come down to mutes, gags, spray related things, and in extremely rare cases cheaters. I'll write based on those.
I have always believed in a three strike system, though it will depend on the severity and I guess "raw intention" of the user. There is also a level of needing to read how the server vibes are and to consider it in some cases of rule breaking, like mic spam.
If someone comes into the server and they are someone who regularly plays sounds or music through their mic and but also did talk in between, their punishment would start lighter than someone who joins the server with the explicit intent to break headphones, never actually speaking a single word.
In all my experiences, if someone is playing non-offensive music but the majority don't mind it, it has always been seen pretty negative by the server to punish that individual. Cracking down on something that others are genuinely enjoying gives off impressions that the staff just rule with an iron fist, so I would likely just advise them to be cautious and read the room themselves before spamming voice too much. I also like to consider joining/new players and make sure that the server is as welcoming as can be when it comes to this though, so as to not turn away people who are just joining, I'd probably ask them to quiet down.
When it's clear that the spam is happening purely for the sake of being as offensive as possible, I would hit them with a mute/gag and a reason why right away, though it still would be strike one. Continuing to do it after the punishment runs out, attempting to evade the punishment to continue the obscenity (perhaps by rejoining), or the player migrating their unpleasantness to the other form of communication is when a much longer term silence would happen. If after ALL THAT TIME they come back and still have not learned, then I am afraid they will be temp banned from the server.
As for sprays, when I was doing all the Garry's mod administration, the way we handled NSFW spray abuse was by kicking three times and telling them to change their spray, and if it wasn't improved by the fourth, a permanent ban was issued and they could appeal if they eventually learned their lesson. I can understand that won't necessarily be the best way to do things anymore, so I am definitely open to learning how others handle this a decade later in BLW
Slaying and team swapping in TF2Ware would really only happen if there was a game happening that all players finished, the timer to end of that game is long, and the player has been AFK for a significant period of time. Don't feel it would require any formal punishment or noting down in a mode like TF2Ware, it happens all the time. Mostly this action would just be to help in population retention as it can lead to large numbers of disconnects if it's too long a wait. I also would imagine that slaying and forcing team change wouldn't be needed at all in the other modes I am interested in but I am not too sure and would love to know if there are times where it could be needed!
Other generic moderation in regards to people being rude to each other beyond the scope of typical video game trash talk would just be handled with three strike system of warnings, mutes/gags, and finally temp bans if it's really not showing signs of improving, but usually I've saw most people move on and the ban was quite uncommon.
Blatant hate speech and the like will get a gag/mute followed by a verbal warning, and subsequent lift of the mute/gag. If they continue then the punishment will have to be lengthened for the second infraction or a temp ban if it's REALLY bad. After that then a perma-ban is in order as there is not a place for them in this community. Could appeal if they learn how to not be like that of course.
If any cases extend out of the server and into another Blackwonder server, I feel punishments across all servers would be appropriate.
Cheating has no strike system. Thrown out of the saloon instantly. Learn how to not need an advantage over others.
Is there any other information you would like us to know about?
I have been dabbling in putting my wide skill set to use in source programs relating to TF2. I have a pretty general know how of most common coding languages and have massive proficiency in the 3D software Blender.
There have been other servers from other games even before the times I mentioned earlier but there is nothing of them that survives. One was called BoholmCraft, a tiny Minecraft server. Don't remember how long it was for, maybe a single summer? It died soon after.
I've been a donor for just a short period of time and mostly got it for the hand resizing. I have used the votemute commands though, class wars being where I've used it the most. Typically I only use it when someone is playing ear bursting sounds and such. I did try to use it against someone who was spouting off slurs and the server actually voted to not mute or gag them so that was an interesting time..
