Have you managed servers previously? Yes
Which servers have you previously managed?
Previous moderation with intox. Gaming back in 2013/2014 (See below for reasons as to why I left)
On what servers do you usually play on, and which servers would you like to moderate?
TF2Ware & Class Wars servers (Sometimes x10/x20/etc)
Why would you like to become a moderator?
Being a moderator isn't just about "having powers" to take care of troublemakers, but it is all about being a representative of the community too for all the players who constantly join the servers who people can look up to. I definitely see myself as that individual who people can trust to be there for them, and even hear them out when they need to explain themselves (Whether this is just players playing, or even those breaking the rules since it is important to hear both sides of the coin).
I would be there to make sure everyone's experience is smooth and without hiccups. I aim to be someone who can be kind and caring, but not weak. This means that I will deal with troublemakers where appropriate if they decide to ignore their hard nudge to stop. In some situations however, this may need to be skipped depending on the severity (As well as priors in the past) and punishment may need to be applied at my discretion.
In terms of previous moderation, I have done moderation for a community known as intox. Gaming back in 2013/2014, however I left their team as I was unhappy with the various comments behind the scenes targeting other players. Other than that, I have moderated various Discord communities as well as various Twitch channels too previously (These were unrelated to TF2 however). I have a moderate knowledge on plugins used on many servers and how to specifically target users correctly if and when necessary.
I've played on Blackwonder servers on and off over the last 12 months, with myself primarily on the Class Wars and TF2Ware servers. I'm sure a few people within the team have seen my name pop up on the servers too, as I am a regular on them but also a recognised donator too (If we don't include all of the random gifts I keep dropping on the server too). But overall, I have been a player people genuinely get on with, and some even enjoying my British accent which is fun to hear. I don't personally do micspam myself (Music/Sounds/etc) just because I always enjoy chatting with the players over the mic a bunch too.
Do you know or have spoken to any of the current staff members? No
How often do you play TF2?
Regularly
Please give us your ideal way of punishing players, specific to the servers you want to moderate
Punishing players is seen as a last resort unless there is a reason to directly punish them. In general, everyone should be aware of the rules whenever they join any server and if they're not, that is on them ultimately and not down to us. We are there to allow players to enjoy themselves without others attempting to ruin it.
Players punished will initially receive a low duration punishment, but this will be increased for recurring incidents. In some cases, consulting with other members of the team will be necessary to determine durations depending on their priors and the incident(s) in question. Voice chat, cheating and micspam/earrape will have recording done via Shadowplay and/or in-game demos where appropriate in the event a player attempts to appeal their ban, but will be removed once their ban has expired.
---Punishment chart (Does not apply to cheating or spray/objector bans)---
Each prior punishment given by any of the team (Excludes in-game votes done as this can be abused) will compound the next one
1st offence = 30 min
2nd offence = 1 hour
3rd offence = 8 hours
4th offence = 1 day
5th offence = 2 day
6th offence = 1 week
7th offence = 2 weeks
8th offence or more = Will consult team [There has to be a reasonable limit if a player is not learning from their punishments, especially if they've potentially been muted/gagged for 2 weeks and come back doing the same again. So consulting with the team on where to go further is necessary.]
---Micspam/Earrape (Warn > Mute)---
There is some flexibility when it comes to what is determined as micspam and/or earrape. Playing one-off SFX in voice chat are usually a non-issue, similar to playing some types of music, so long as it's not prolonged (Most people use !ignore/!sm for this even though it is technically against the rules to micspam). When it comes to earrape, there is no leniency and an immediate warning will be issued before moving to punishment if they continue to do so.
---Chat Spam (Warn > Gag)---
The same as the above, but with text chat instead. Some levels of spam is okay, but don't be copy/pasting "Fuck you" over and over and over in chat, otherwise you'll get warned and then potentially gagged.
---Harassment (Warn > Mute and/or Gag)---
Attacking other players with malicious intent is not tolerated. Everyone is there to enjoy themselves on the servers, and those who are there to berate people or to deliberately upset there will be warned to stop immediately, otherwise a mute and/or gag will be issued.
---Racism/Homophobia/Transphobia (Mute and/or Gag)---
As a prominent member of the LGBTQ+ community, there is a zero tolerance for any form of racial/homophobic/transphobic comments, and these players will be swiftly dealt with a mute and/or a gag where appropriate. We promote an open space to all of the servers where players should be able to express themselves and if people are going to obstruct that, then their gameplay experience will be severely limited. In a world which is getting more scary for some people, we need to be able to provide that safe space.
---NSFW Content (Warn > Spray/Objector ban)---
This game is not the place to be if you are here to post pornography or any similar NSFW content. Not everyone is an adult on the server, but also not everyone wants to see this kind of material regardless. If a player is caught waving around objectors or spraying this kind of content, they will be immediately asked to change/unequip it. If following the warning they haven't, then they will be issued with a spray/objector ban.
---Evading Punishment (Move to next offence/duration)---
Avoiding punishment is not going to make things go away, and if caught, those existing punishments will be extended along with any additional accounts used to avoid this. This will vary depending on the current punishment in question and any priors of course.
---Cheating/Aimbot (VOD/Demo review, followed by permaban if proven)---
It is quite easy to mistake cheating for actual skill, however any concern of cheating should always be addressed at least as in some cases, it can actually be they are using tools to assist them. The best way to deal with this is to do a combination of monitoring that player's gameplay, while recording a in-game demo file and/or a VOD recording too. This can then be reviewed as a team if the user is using cheats and potentially bypassing SMAC's system, with punishment to follow afterwards.
---Exploiting (Warn > Ban)---
While not necessarily cheating, exploiting can still share similar aspects to it. For example in Dustbowl, there is a spot you can use to attack but avoid damage due to how the map is built. These issues are usually patched by Valve or map makers, but some get missed. Regardless, no one should be abusing these spots to gain an unfair advantage and those doing it will be warned, followed by a ban if they continue to do so.
---Advertising Cheats (Gag + Mute)---
With a zero tolerance for cheating on any server, promoting cheats is also not tolerated and will result in a gag and mute from the servers. Even as a joke, don't do this because it will get you punished.
Is there any other information you would like us to know about?
As James May once said, "Hello"
If you haven't seen me on the servers yet, I'm InfinityGene, which is not even close to my name which is actually. I've got a lovely British/Yorkshire accent (Like the Yorkshire Puddings, yes). I'm a streamer primarily focused on retro games, which includes RetroAchievements and speedrunning. But I also do a bit of digital art in some free time when I'm not encountering the dreaded "wall".
I've taken part in charity speedrun marathons at times to raise money and awareness for great causes, and even been on a couple GDQ Hotfixes too which is somewhat terrifying when you have 100k people watching you play Rugrats: SFR really quickly!
Some of my other hobbies include 3D printing, 3D origami, pouring a drink into a cup (It's exciting, trust me), visiting family. I do like some specific sports such as motorsports (F1/WEC/etc), Olympics and a good old bit of snooker as well.
I do have AuDHD, but that doesn't stop me doing all of the wonderful things that I do each and every day and have done so for the last 30 years of my life. I'm a strong supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, being part of it myself
Overall, I'm someone who lives each day as it comes. There's ups and downs, but ultimately I keep pushing forwards all the time and love every moment that I spend with my families and friends who have shown support to me as I have to them. If you have anymore question to ask, by all means! Thanks for reading this "essay" level application.
